Emi’s love for the land began in the rural countryside of Eastern Europe, where she spent much of her childhood playing in the gardens. Whether at home or on the farm, her early years were immersed in nature—tending vegetable gardens, playing among dandelions, farm animals and fruit trees, and learning traditional growing practices passed down through generations. These formative experiences laid the foundation for her lifelong connection to the earth.

Outdoor hobbies that drew Emi out into the wilderness inspired her as an adult to live more sustainably and surround herself by beauty. She set out to rediscover and relearn the sustainable practices of her upbringing. Despite living in a Los Angeles apartment and holding a full-time corporate role in healthcare, she began vermicomposting, growing container vegetables, and learning about local food systems. Her passion for sustainability and appreciation for high-quality, locally sourced ingredients was further enriched by travel and the city’s elevated quality of cuisine.

Eventually, Emi left her senior role in the corporate world to pursue her passion full-time. She completed her degree in Nutrition Science and began hands-on work in agriculture and land stewardship. From Oregon to Montana to Canada, Emi studied under farmers, botanists, and conservationists. In Oregon, she delved into regenerative agriculture—learning about permaculture, seed production, silviculture, beekeeping, soil preservation, foraging, herbalism, and forestry. Her time in Montana introduced her to renewable energy systems, sustainable building methods, and the world of botany, where she was inspired by her time with a few mentors and an environmental educator, Thomas J. Elpel.

In Canada, Emi gained expertise in market gardening and closed-loop farming—learning how small-scale farms up to 30 acres could thrive using sustainable methods. Here, she trained under a student of soil scientist Elaine Ingham and developed a deep understanding of soil microbiology and compost production while working on a successful family farm in the Shuswap region of British Columbia.

Upon returning to California, Emi continued her work in edible, pollinator-friendly landscaping and beekeeping as a lead gardener and project manager for a well-established landscaping company in Los Angeles. She worked with high-profile clients ranging from corporate campuses to Michelin-starred restaurants and private residences.

From 2022 to 2024, Emi took on a large-scale consulting and management project, transforming a barren 6-acre ranch in Temecula into a working farm and AirBnB retreat. This project included full property restoration, home reconstruction, food production, and livestock integration—providing guests with an immersive and educational farm experience. During this time, Emi became deeply involved with Temecula Valley’s agricultural communities, continuing to learn, share, and grow.

Today, Emi brings her decades of experience, passion for sustainability, inspirations from travel, and deep-rooted knowledge in agriculture, nutrition, and environmental stewardship to M.E. Garden Scapes. Through consulting, design, installation, and maintenance services, she helps individuals and communities create thriving, regenerative landscapes that nourish both people and the planet.
